Business Technology drives digitalization at Fortum, enabling smart solutions for customers, improved asset and trading productivity, and new data driven business models. Innovation & Venturing unit ensures Fortum’s renewal through strategic insight of new technologies, high-performance internal and external venturing and piloting new opportunities. The unit is also responsible of IP strategy and patenting support as well as cooperation with universities and research institutions on behalf of the whole corporate.
We are looking for IPR Manager to join Innovation & Venturing unit. IPR Manager is responsible for Fortum’s patent portfolio, taking care of the patent application prosecution process, and maintenance of patents. The responsibilities include handling the invention process from receiving the invention notices, initially checking patentability, taking care of inventor compensation payments and other employee invention related matters, and participating into the patent application drafting process. In addition, IPR Manager performs different searches and analyses into patent publications, such as novelty and patentability searches and freedom-to-operate analyses.
IPR manager also helps Fortum’s business units recognize inventions and identify the best form of protection for ideas and innovation; and gives general IP related guidance and counselling, as well as provides training in general IP and specific patenting-related issues.
Furthermore, IPR manager takes part in developing Fortum’s IP strategy and IP management. IPR Manager liaises with appropriate decision-makers, inventors, R&D personnel, and legal teams at corporate and business unit level. In addition to your main role, you will contribute to other activities of Innovation & Venturing services. Ideally, you will be based in Espoo, Finland. In this role, you will report to the Head or Research Collaboration and IPR.

To succeed and thrive you have a Master's degree in a relevant field and proven track record of handling different IP issues, particularly patenting, in international business and R&D environment. You are skilled in organizing you own work, and experience in managing IP entities where the needs and requirements of different stakeholders need to be taken into account. You have an analytical mind and the ability to absorb large amounts of complex information, as well as to draw clear conclusions. You understand corporate R&D process and you have experience working in complex corporate environment. You communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing and create high-standard presentation materials.
